#20 Books that YOU love

As of this monday, I am a proud renewed owner of a library card. I have plans to do a LOT of summer reading. And since I love me some good books, I'd love to hear some suggestions of some books you love! So if you have any suggestions (and by you I mean anyone, and everyone!) leave me a comment!

  1. Okay, since you asked: (In no particular order)

"Rebecca" by Daphne DuMaurier (I've enjoyed just about everything by DuMaurier)
"A Girl Named Zippy" by Haven Kimmel
    "Mrs. Mike" by Benedict Freedman
"The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shafferm
"The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak
"Katurah and Lord Death" by Martine Leavitt
"The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie" by Alan Bradley
"A Countess Below Stairs" by Eva Ibbotson
"Goose Girl" (and the other books in the series) by Shannon Hale
    "Princess Academy" by Shannon Hale
"Book of a Thousand Days" by Shannon Hale
(I was on a Shannon Hale kick, can you tell? Just a heads up, though, "Austenland" and "The Actor and the Housewife" are NOT very good.)

Everyone has different reading interests, but these are my top picks. I've enjoyed Goodreads.com where friends share and rate books they've read. It has also been helpful to learn more about a book that I didn't know much about. It actually helped by bringing to my attention some questionable material in a book I was considering.

Good luck with your quest this summer, and HAPPY READING!

  2. I agree with most of Stephanie's list. Here are a few more of my favorites.
Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull (Fun fantasy series)
The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy (Fun non-depressing read about the French Revolution--not too long)
Emma by Jane Austen (my favorite Austen book)
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas (abridged version)

Just a few favorites. Enjoy your summer of reading!

  3. I will add "The Bean Trees," by Barbara Kingsolver. I read it so many years ago that I can't even tell you what it's about. I just remember that it's very well written. I went on to read lots of other books by Ms. Kingsolver. That is, until she got all wacky and turned hippie with "Prodigal Summer." Must draw the line there.

  4. Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer!!
